Start Driving Traffic to Your Blog Today
Bloggers often spend a fair amount of time researching effective techniques used to drive traffic to their blog. In fact, it is not uncommon for a blogger to spend such a large amount of time driving traffic that he forgets to update the blog on a regular basis. Fortunately, balancing your workload by driving traffic in the morning and posting content at night, or vice versa, will help to keep your blog interesting and appealing while increasing your following.
Write often and write well. If you're going to promote your blog, you better have content on your blog. It is crucial to keep your blog updated on a regular basis with useful, interesting content to build your audience. The content you post on your blog is what keeps your readers hanging on, so if you're driving traffic to an empty blog, you're wasting your time. When posting, say something of meaning. Write with substance. Don't just say what you think people want to hear. Be honest and implement a bit of humor and humility every now and then.
Develop a voice. If your blog does not yet have a voice, it is imperative that you begin developing one that is different from the rest. A boring, monotone blog filled with technical writing that lacks charisma or personality will not keep readers interested. Write with authority, empathy, compassion, and blunt honesty. Don't be afraid to be controversial every once in awhile. Stick to what you know so that your writing flows smoothly. Don't take yourself too seriously.
Include photographs in your blog posts. If you've ever been to a blog where the post was 750 word long block of text, sans photographs or line breaks, you'll know exactly why formatting and images are so important. It's hard to digest a huge block of text, not to mention it's difficult to read. Offer your readers something to look at, such as images, videos, or even bullets or blockquotes. Keep it visually appealing to prevent your readers from taking one good look at the page and searching for content elsewhere.
Leave comments on other blogs. You're a blogger and you're looking for traffic. The same goes for thousands of other bloggers. Why not help them out? Search for blogs in your niche and head on over and take a gander at some of the content they're offering readers. Comment on their work and include a link back to your blog in the "website" section. Not only does this provide them with a quality visitor and comment, it also increases the possibility that you'll receive traffic from their visitors. It's a win-win.
Submit your blog to popular search engines. If your blog is not listed in the search engines, it makes it incredibly difficult for potential visitors to find it. Submit your blog URL to search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, AOL, MSN, and Answers to start out. Before you believe this will lead to a surge in traffic, know that it's virtually impossible for your blog to show up in the top search results on your first day. Rest assured, however, that your blog will still be included, which will increase your chances of gaining unique traffic.
Optimize your content and your blog. If you aren't familiar with SEO, it is highly recommended, almost critical that you start learning immediately. Search engine optimization is what helps the search engines to pick up your blog. Optimize your page for search engines to find them easily. Include keywords relevant to your blog post, but avoid going overboard. It's best to include a keyword in every three sentences. These search engines will pick up on the links and if you're posting a link over and over again, the engines may pick up on this and ban your blog entirely.
Submit your blog's RSS feed to popular websites. Attract traffic quickly simply by submitting your blog's RSS feed to popular feed services such as Feedage, FeedFury, and Feedagg. When submitting, include relevant keywords to find users interested in your chosen niche. All it takes is a small amount of typing and a few clicks of the mouse. You may begin to see traffic immediately.
Use social bookmarking websites to attract unique visitors. Social bookmarking isn't exactly the same thing as bookmarking a website from your browser. In fact, it means bookmarking your blog through social sites such as Digg, Technorati, and StumbleUpon. Readers often browse through these listings to find interesting content. If you're lucky, you'll be able to grab some genuine traffic from these websites.
Get involved in online communities. Social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace all provide excellent opportunities for promoting your blog in a subtle way. After creating an account, edit your profile and include a link at the bottom. Start networking with bloggers of the same niche. This will help you build partnerships and a loyal following. Promote your posts through status updates. Alternatively, you may join forums to promote your blog. Talk about your niche in the forums and in your signature, include a link to your blog. Stay active and post regularly to earn high-quality traffic.
Request guest bloggers to contribute. If you know a well-known blogger who shares the same niche as you, approach him and inquire as to whether or not he would be interested in contributing a guest post. Not only will you make him feel appreciated and acknowledged, but your blog will benefit from having a well-known name on the site. Discuss beforehand whether or not the post will be edited prior to publishing.
Generating traffic to your blog does require basic effort, but it is simple effort. A click here, a brief description there. No matter how you choose to drive traffic to your blog, in the end, the results are worth it.
