5 Factors to Consider in a Good Link-Building Campaign
Link building is a very important SEO activity. If you have thousands of authority websites pointing back to your website, you are more likely to improve your position in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). As a result, most people attempting to improve their SEO will spend a lot of time building links. Here are five things that you should always have in mind when you start building links back to your website.
1. Build Links from a Variety of Sources
Many people simply focus on the number of links that they build back to their websites. However, you should also be thinking about the diversity of your link portfolio. There is growing evidence that websites are more likely to enjoy better rankings in search engines like Google if their links come from a wide range of sources.
This means that you should attempt to build links from blogs, websites, directories, press releases, video sharing sites, articles, and social media sources rather than just sticking to one source for all of your links if you want to improve your SEO.
2. Look for Authority Websites
One of the first things that you will learn about link building for SEO is that a link from an authority website is more valuable than a link from a minor website. If an industry-leading website, or an authoritative government website, links to you, this lends your site more authority than if you get a link from a new blog with only three posts. It is therefore always a good idea to seek out links from higher-quality websites when you can.
3. Link from Web Pages on Similar Topics
It is a good idea to try and build your links from web pages that are on the same topic as your own content. For example, if you run a travel website it makes sense to try and find links from other web pages discussing travel issues. This is also typically easier to accomplish because it makes more sense for blogs and websites to link to you if your content is on the same topic as their own.
4. Use Keyword-Rich Links
Links sometimes consist of standard URLs, but they often consist of hyperlinks created using text. When building your links, it is a good idea to use text links as much as possible and to try and use your main keywords as the text. However, make sure that you diversify the keywords that you use, otherwise it will look unnatural.
5. Build Links Slowly
When you first start building links, try not to create hundreds or thousands of links in a very short period of time. This could suggest to the search engines that something untoward may be going on. Instead, try to build up your links steadily over time. As more people find your content and start to share it, the number of links pointing to your website will naturally start to increase faster, but at the beginning it is a good idea to avoid building links too quickly.
Start Building Links to Your Website
Link building is an important part of any SEO strategy. Not only do links improve your SEO, but they can also generate direct traffic, especially if they are from high-traffic websites. When you start to build links, just remember to keep the above considerations in mind to get the most from your link-building campaign.
